October 9, 1999 A very heavy double lever - 1 1/4 pounds! 7 1/2" long. The cast frame is unusual in that it is a four post frame. Levers are cast iron and handle / shank is brass. Not marked. |

September 28, 1999 Corkscrew with butterfly handle and centering button in frame. This is an "Obituary" corkscrew engraved on the side of the frame "Job Conworth, Obit. March 1st, 1855, 73 Years." In The University of Nottingham Library Manuscripts and Special Collections there is a catalogue of the papers of Henry Pelham-Clinton, 4th Duke of Newcastle under Lyne in the Newcastle collection. This entry is recorded on February 21, 1814: Sends approval of Prince Regent to appointments of Job Conworth as Lieutenant and George Thornton as Quarter Master in 3rd Nottinghamshire Militia. |

August 16, 1999 A very unusual superbly crafted "can opener." The handle with the rotating cutter is ribbed and twisted 90 degrees (by design). There is a cap lifter at the end of the handle. The other handle has a worm hidden under pivoting cover marked PATENTE ACTA NO 115594. The opener handle is marked GAUMEN INDUSTRIA ARGENTINA MARCA REGISTRATDA. |

August 16, 1999 The brass cap on this horn handle corkscrew unthreads to reveal a storage place for the worm - a hole the diameter of the shank. The worm is removed to fit in the keyhole for use. |

August 16, 1999 Four finger pull with cap lifter and foil cutter. The unusual thing here is the marking - SACCA ROLHAS - ANTARCTICA. It is from Brazil and advertises the Antarctica beer brand. Sacca Rolhas is Portuguese for corkscrew. |
