Bystran Mystery

Ed Bystran I got the corkscrew in the above photos on eBay several months ago. It has no marks and I haven't been able to identify it. Do you have any suggestions where I should look? Do you know what it is?

Ron: I have been looking out for many years for information on this particular wire corkscrew, made from two pieces of steel wire, after finding a nickel plated example in the early 1980s.

Unfortunately, as far as I am aware, it has never been illustrated in any publication, catalogues or items on corkscrews. From its construction with a ground point wire helix I think it is possibly English not American circa 1900+.

It is definitely rare and does not surface very often. Should you find anything out about its origin I would appreciate being contacted.
